The Gerry Lopez Big Wave Challenge is a contest like no other. Taking place at Mt. Bachelor Oregon, the event was imagined and created by legendary surfer Gerry Lopez. The Big Wave Challenge is unique one of a kind event designed to emulate the iconic surf breaks of the Hawaiian islands. The premise of the contest is to ride the “frozen” waves as if they were water waves. To essentially surf the earth! Riders were judged on speed, power, flow, and of course style!
The who’s who of northwest snowboarding all came out for the event. From up and comers like Max and Gus Warbington, to legends like Temple Cummins, Barret (Christy) Cummins, Bryan Fox, Curtis Ciszek and even Danny Davis. Despite the weather being typical NW weather of rain, sleet, snow, and sunshine, it didn’t seem damper the vibes and spirit of this epic day.
Myself along with REV’D shredders, Scott Blum and Brett Wilkinson set out to meet up with fellow REV’D rippers Alex Lopez and Blake Paul to take in this amazing weekend. All photos shot on my iPhone
REV’D is incredibly proud to be the official bar sponsor at this one of a kind event! Thank you’s to Gerry and the entire Lopez family, Andy at Mt. Bachelor and everyone else we had the pleasure to ride and hang out with. It was truly an amazing weekend. I can’t wait for next year!
